Fostex T60RP Reviews Compendium

Compendium updated February 24th, 2021

Whether you’re searching for your next pair of semi-open backs or something to mod, the Fostex T60RP should be at the top of your list.

We’ve compiled reviews from across the web for your reference. What you’ll find here are the TLDR versions of the full reviews (which you can access with the provided links). We’ll continue updating this compendium as reviews come in.

From SoundStage! Solo's review of the  Fostex T60RP, first published on January 1st, 2019:

“There are quite a few audiophile-grade open-back and semi-open-back headphones in the $300 price range. Most are quite good, and choosing among them is mostly a matter of personal taste -- do you want a more trebly, detailed, spacious sound, or a fuller, more dynamic sound? The T60RPs strike one of the most natural and versatile tonal balances of the models we’ve tried in this price range, with none of the ergonomic downsides that some competitors suffer.

From Major HiFi's review of the  Fostex T60RP, first published on January 23rd, 2018:

“The Fostex T60RP headphones are an upgrade from the others in the RP series. They are certainly a quality headphone with a thick, solid, and rich sound signature. They are comfortable for long duration use, and so I’d highly recommend them for folks who either just like to listen for a long time, or for mix engineers or recording engineers looking for a pair of headphones to supplement their monitors.”

From Headphone Guru's review of the  Fostex T60RP, first published on February 19th, 2018:

“In conclusion, the T60RP is everything you would expect from a Pro Audio company like Fostex. Those familiar with the previous generations of the RP series or any of the many aftermarket headphones that use the RP driver will not be disappointed. Though not a forgiving headphone, it does not amplify the negative aspects of a low resolution or harder amplifier despite giving a little emphasis to the high end. The midrange is very flat, with a tonal balance that gives a little meat to the bass without sounding particularly colored. The comfort level is fairly high, and the build quality unimpeachable. While there are certainly some advantages to dynamic driver headphones in terms of efficiency and ease to drive, there is no competing with planar magnetics when it comes to speed, detail and linearity, and I would heartily recommend anyone considering a headphone in this price range to give the T60RP a listen."

From L&B Tech Reviews' review of the  Fostex T60RP, first published on August 31st, 2020:

“As the test’s only half-open headphones, the Fostex T60RP has the advantage of sounding more dynamic and large than closed headphones. At the same time, they have the engaging bass reproduction we mostly only experience from closed watches. Let go, you will not get the full impact force in the bass drum when you raise the sound level and expect proper physics. But at normal listening level and a little higher than that, there is really good sound we are talking about here.

“Piano has a beautiful sound base. The sound picture is larger than usual for headphones. Singing voices sound really nice. Slightly restrained where they should be aggressive (the lighter chest sound area), but this is addictive listening.”
