New from TOPPING: The DX5 II DAC/Amp

A new chapter for a desktop favorite

The DX5 II is here. TOPPING’s latest DAC/Amp combo refines and expands on the original DX5 with better specs, broader connectivity, and smarter design—without changing what made the first one such a solid performer. With dual ES9039Q2M DACs, a brand-new X-Hybrid headphone amp, and a 10-band parametric EQ system, the DX5 II delivers power and precision in a compact desktop form.

Fully -balanced, front to back

Let’s start with D/A chips. The DX5 II uses two ES9039Q2M DAC chips—one per channel. This dual-DAC approach reduces crosstalk and improves stereo imaging while pushing signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and dynamic range to 133dB. Harmonic distortion is kept down to a near-surgical 0.00006%.

To make the most of that signal, TOPPING replaced the old amp module with their own X-Hybrid circuit: a three-stage system with a discrete input, op-amp gain stage, and discrete output. It delivers clean, efficient power—up to 7600mW x2 into 16Ω—without cooking your desk in the process.

New tuning tools with 10-band PEQ

PEQ, or parametric EQ, is a powerful tool for shaping your sound. The DX5 II’s software lets you tweak ten independent bands, adjusting frequency, gain, and Q-factor as well—the width of each band’s influence. You can save multiple profiles, set different EQ curves for headphones and speakers, and import or export profiles from your library.

Aurora UI makes everything easier

The DX5 II uses TOPPING’s Aurora UI—a 2" full-color screen with three buttons and a clickable knob. You can customize the display (VU meter, FFT, or playback info), switch background colors, and reassign the control knob to whatever you use most. It’s fast, intuitive, and doesn’t rely on tiny remote-control buttons or clunky menus.

Bluetooth with LDAC

The DX5 II includes the QCC5125 Bluetooth chip, supporting Bluetooth 5.1 with LDAC, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, AAC, and SBC. It’s a clean wireless option for streaming from a phone, tablet, or TV, with up to 96kHz/24-bit resolution via LDAC.

Flexible I/O

This is a fully-balanced unit with options for every rig. Headphone outputs include 4.4mm balanced, 4-pin XLR balanced, and 6.35mm single-ended. Around back, you’ll find balanced XLR and single-ended RCA outputs for line-level connection to active monitors or a power amp.

You can run the DX5 II in preamp mode and control volume from the front panel or remote. Each input and output remembers its volume level, so you don’t need to re-adjust every time you swap sources.

USB input with XMOS XU316

The DX5 II’s USB input supports PCM up to 768kHz/32-bit and native DSD512. It works with Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. The XMOS XU316 interface is reliable and low-latency. Windows users can install the Thesycon driver to unlock ASIO mode and get full control over audio routing.

Built-in I/V conversion

Most DACs rely on reference designs to convert current output to voltage. TOPPING doesn’t. The DX5 II uses a self-developed I/V stage that’s compact, quiet, and precisely tuned for the ES9039Q2M. That means less distortion, less noise, and more headroom.
