NEW: SMSL x Mondrop DHA15 DAC/Amp

S.M.S.L x MOONDROP DHA15

The S.M.S.L x MOONDROP DHA15 is a fully-balanced desktop DAC and headphone amplifier built around dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chip architecture and a discrete Class A output stage. It supports PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and native DSD256, with output power reaching 15W per channel at 16 ohms. With USB-C, XLR, and RCA inputs, along with multiple headphone outputs and browser-based DSP control, it's central control unit for a headphone-focused system.

A discrete Class A amplifier with ample headroom

The DHA15 uses a fully-balanced discrete Class A amplifier design. Class A operation keeps output devices active at all times, avoiding crossover distortion and maintaining consistent current delivery. At 15W + 15W into 16 ohms and 7.5W + 7.5W into 32 ohms, the amplifier provides substantial voltage and current.

Dual DAC architecture and high-resolution decoding

Digital conversion is handled by dual CS43198 DAC chips in a balanced configuration. This setup improves channel separation and reduces noise by splitting left and right signal paths. The DAC stage supports PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD256, covering most modern streaming formats and high-resolution file libraries.

DSP control through MOONDROP’s platform

A defining feature of the DHA15 is MOONDROP’s second-generation interactive DSP platform. Instead of relying on fixed EQ presets, it allows direct manipulation of parameters such as frequency, gain, filter type, and Q factor through a browser interface or app.

Auto EQ and shared tuning library

The DSP system includes a growing library of headphone frequency response profiles. With one-click Auto EQ, users can map a headphone’s measured response toward a chosen target curve. This reduces the need for manual EQ work, especially when starting from an unfamiliar headphone.

Precision volume and gain control

Volume is controlled through a 99-step system with three selectable gain levels. This allows fine adjustments when using sensitive in-ear monitors while still providing sufficient output for full-size headphones.

Connectivity for system integration

The DHA15 includes USB-C, dual XLR, and RCA inputs, covering both digital and analog sources. On the output side, it provides 4-pin XLR, 4.4mm balanced, and 6.35mm single-ended headphone connections. This range of connectivity allows it to function as a central node in a desktop system, whether connected to a computer, streamer, or external DAC transport.

Flexible roles beyond headphones

In addition to headphone amplification, the DHA15 can operate as a preamp, standalone DAC, or pure amplifier. This extends its usefulness in systems that include powered monitors or external amplification.
