We’re excited to announce that we’re now selling the SMSL SU-9n Balanced Desktop DAC on Apos Audio for $399. The SU-9n is an alternative (not a replacement) to the super popular SU-9 DAC. It streamlines the original for a simpler (and less expensive) experience that will appeal to audiophiles seeking a benchmark DAC without all of the bells and whistles.
So what’s different about this model? First of all, SMSL has gotten rid of MQA support. They’ve also foregone UAT support, replaced the sixteen-core XU216 processor for an eight-core XU208 processor, and replaced the double low-noise crystal oscillator clock for a CK-02 clock processing unit. While the SU-9n pares down the original's list of features, it actually performs better than it in certain key areas, such as THD+N: 0.00006% in the SU-9n vs 0.00008% in the original.
