FiiO FH5s Hybrid Semi-Open Back IEM
These Headphones Break
Conventional wisdom says that IEMs should be closed-back. That IEMs should be tuned to one sound signature. That IEMs should be plastic. The FiiO FH5s breaks with tradition. In fact, it shatters it. With a semi-open back design, on-the-fly tuning switches, and an aluminum-magnesium chassis, the FH5s offers an all-new IEM experience.
Best in Iconoclast
It’s one thing to stuff an IEM with a million drivers and another to equip it with good, high quality ones. The FH5s’ two dynamic drivers are coated in beryllium, a rare element that’s strong and lightweight qualities provide rapid bass response and velvety mid-range. The Knowles TWFK-30017 balanced armature is placed as close as possible to the sound tube for airy staging and dazzling extension.
Suit your sound
Traditional IEMs confine you to one sound tuning, but what if you don’t like it? You’re stuck. The FH5s features three tuning switches--for bass, mid-range, and treble--that can be adjusted on the fly. Try the crowd-pleasing Harman Curve, the mid-forward vocal performer, the bass bump, or one of eight total combinations. Find the signature that suits your sound.
Release your expectations
What can you expect from a semi-open back headphone? You can expect them to be more comfortable for longer listening sessions, because they relieve air pressure at the back of the chassis. You can expect a wider, more natural soundstage, because they let sound reflections escape. You can expect a safer experience, because sometimes it’s important to keep a safe lookout, like while walking along a busy street.
Unlike traditional IEM chassis, which are made of plastic, the FH5s uses CNC-machined aluminum-magnesium alloy for structural integrity, longevity, and better acoustics. The sturdiness of the material works to reduce unwanted resonances inside the chassis, improving overall sound without adding undue weight (each monitor weighs only 0.3oz). Once you hear them and feel them, you’ll say peace to plastic.
