SJY Horizon Closed Carbon Planar Magnetic Headphones
Note: This is a pre-order that will ship in mid-to-late February 2025.
Sound unbound
Designed and built in Houston, Texas, the Horizon Closed Carbon Headphones deliver a non-fatiguing, holographic sound with exceptional imaging and precise details. Made for audiophiles, music producers, and gamers needing image-perfect audio cues, the Horizon Closed Carbon combines the natural feel of open-back headphones with the noise isolation of a closed-back design.
Hand-made planar magnetic drivers
Jeffrey Yin of SJY Audio hand-builds each driver with the strongest-grade magnets and a full aluminum frame, minimally dampening the driver to guarantee a playful, engaging, and image-perfect sound experience. This setup delivers outstanding performance with crystal clear vocals and a balanced sound across the frequency range.
Carbon fiber ear cups
Hand-casted from forged carbon fiber, the ear cups sport a unique “brushstroke” pattern and extreme durability. The matte finish—both scratch- and finger-print resistant—perfectly complements the subtle and strong CNC-machined aluminum frame.
All-day lightweight wearability
Built with CNC aluminum construction yet weighing just a pound, the Horizon Closed Carbon offers a sturdy yet lightweight design.
Ultra-comfortable ear pads
The earpads feature an interior of memory foam that contours to your head. The outer layer combines perforated protein leather on the inside and non-perforated protein leather on the outside, while the front is made from breathable polyester to reduce heat for a cool and comfortable experience even during all-day use.
Full-grain leather headband
The top strap is crafted from full-grain leather, chosen for its natural texture and softness, while the bottom strap features thicker full-grain leather with a heavier finish, for its wear resistance. Together, they form a two-layer construction, boasting long-lasting durability and a classic, refined aesthetic.
How we’re listening to it
Tom at Apos here. I first heard the Horizon Closed at CanJam SoCal 2024. I was an immediate fan, loving it for its incredible detail, laser-precise imaging, and delightfully engaging tonality. I’ve become an even bigger fan since getting to know Jeffrey Yin of SJY and getting a pair of my own to try with my setup at home, where I’ve listened to it for dozens of hours on end. Truly, it’s my favorite headphone I’ve heard in a long time. While the Horizon Closed sounds great on almost any setup, it really shines with dedicated DAC/amp systems. It's sensitive enough to work with my iPhone 16 Pro and the Moondrop Dawn Pro dongle DAC (though I have to max out the volume). It also sounds great on hybrid tube amps like the Gremlin, but I much prefer it with solid state amps. Some of my favorite pairings are the FiiO M17, TOPPING D90 stack, xDuoo XA-02 Class-A DAC/Amp, and R2R DACs like the FiiO K11 R2R or Denafrips Ares II.
