From SoundNews' written review of the FiiO BTR5 Portable HiFi Bluetooth DAC/Amp, first published on December 16th, 2019:

“If you want the best wireless receiver that can also work as a dedicated DAC for your phone, PC or MAC then BTR5 is currently your best bet. It doesn’t sound like a tiny device it is, it sounds like a serious and grown-up product. I’m sure those years of testing grounds with wireless receivers and transmitters paid-off big time.

“BTR5 impressed me with its build quality and sonics, it sounds impeccable for this size and for this price.

“I do wholeheartedly recommend BTR5 and see myself using it a whole lot with my phone. At only $129.99 it can be an excellent Christmas gift for your audiophile friends that don’t have a smartphone with a headphone jack. External dongles? move away please.”

From Headfonics’ review of the FiiO BTR5 Portable HiFi Bluetooth DAC/Amp, first published on March 29th, 2020:

“The BTR5 is the best Bluetooth receiver I have tried up to date. It offers pretty much everything I imagined on a 2020 Bluetooth device.

“Overall, there is no competition offering such a complete package combining great aesthetics, functionality, connectivity, and also decent sound performance comparable to entry-mid-level DAPs.

“The tuning also does well to hide the flaws of Bluetooth, especially on bass texture, keeping it agile and lively. If you are looking for a Bluetooth receiver upgrade, the performance on BTR5 will make it a safe bet.

“DAP users with 2.5mm terminated earphones may also find it an impressive addition to the collection which could potentially replace your entry-mid-level DAPs.”

From Headphonesty’s review of the FiiO BTR5 Portable HiFi Bluetooth DAC/Amp, first published on December 6th, 2020:

“I personally really like the FiiO BTR5 and the pricing is very reasonable for a feature-packed product of such outstanding build quality. The output power should be sufficient for most of my use-cases and the USB DAC will come in handy when I'm on my crappy windows laptop."

“Pros:

  • »Great build quality

  • »Oleophobic coating on glass makes it nice to touch

  • »NFC Pairing

  • »Provides fair amount of power for a portable DAC/AMP

  • »Comprehensive Bluetooth audio format support

  • »No hissing sound at 102 dB SPL/V sensitivity

“Cons:

  • »Position of the audio jack

  • »FiiO Music app

  • »Plastic clip is hard to detach”

I have spent a lot of time with the FiiO BTR5 and was by the end very impressed with its natural, clear and pretty detailed presentation. It has everything that a portable wireless & wired DAC/AMP should have; an above average sound quality, support of all actual Bluetooth codes, a powerful 2.5mm balanced & 3.5mm single ended output which are packed in a small, solid and nice looking modern device. All of these features are offered for a reasonable price which makes the BTR5 to one of my favorite budget audiophile devices.

From Audiophile-Heaven's review of the FiiO BTR5 Portable HiFi Bluetooth DAC/Amp, first published on December 29th, 2020:

“If you’re looking for a way to use your phone to listen to music and have it sound as close as possible to perfection, if you mainly use IEMs but also sometimes use headphones, and if you want a full plate when it comes to features, codecs, EQ, and a balanced output, FiiO BTR5 is totally the way to go.”

From Everyday Listening's review of the FiiO BTR5 Portable HiFi Bluetooth DAC/Amp, first published on February 13th, 2021:

“The build and design are streamlined and premium while the addition of balanced output aids versatility. The OLED screen is also something I found myself enjoying far more than anticipated, providing much more feedback than your usual audio-based system; the BTR5 is simply a pleasure to use day to day. Add on wide codec support and capable audio hardware and it’s hard to fault the BTR5 for its intended purposes. The sound is clean, balanced and detailed with a low OI, black noise floor and ample driving power for portable headphones in addition to more difficult IEMs.”
