Introducing the EPZ P40 and P50 IEMs

The EPZ P40 and P50 are two new multi-driver IEMs that take different approaches to dividing the audible frequency range. The P40 combines two dynamic drivers, one micro planar magnetic driver, and one piezoelectric driver through a four-way crossover. The P50 pairs a dynamic driver with two balanced armatures and two micro planar drivers in an open-back metal housing. Both include interchangeable 3.5mm and 4.4mm cable terminations for listeners moving between portable players, DACs, and headphone amplifiers.

P40: Dedicated dynamic drivers for bass and mids

The P40 assigns bass and midrange reproduction to separate DLC dynamic drivers. A 0.35-inch (9mm) driver handles low frequencies, while a 0.28-inch (7mm) dual-magnet, dual-cavity driver covers the midrange. This division gives each driver a defined operating range, helping preserve vocal definition during bass-heavy passages. EPZ’s tuning emphasizes bass weight and punch alongside focused vocals.

A four-way crossover uses electronic and acoustic design to coordinate the two dynamic drivers with the planar and piezoelectric drivers. Managing their frequency ranges and transitions helps reduce interference between drivers and maintain coherence across the spectrum.

P40: Planar and piezoelectric treble

A second-generation micro planar magnetic driver handles treble detail and extension. Smaller than a typical balanced armature driver, it works alongside a PZT piezoelectric ceramic driver that contributes upper-frequency air and overtones. EPZ tunes the pairing around fine texture and an open upper range while aiming for a smooth listening character.

The P40 has a specified frequency response of 20Hz–20kHz, an impedance of 14Ω, and a sensitivity of 100dB (±3dB). Its included Furukawa silver-plated cable measures 3.94ft (1.2m), uses detachable 0.78mm two-pin connectors, and accepts the supplied 3.5mm and 4.4mm modular plugs. A carrying case and small, medium, and large eartips are also included.

P50: Five drivers with a vocal-focused midrange

The P50 uses a five-driver tribrid configuration, combining three driver technologies through a three-way crossover. One dynamic driver provides bass, two balanced armatures reproduce the midrange, and two planar magnetic drivers handle upper frequencies. The crossover manages the transitions between these driver groups.

EPZ’s HDV Composite tuning emphasizes vocal density and clarity. The midrange system includes a custom 32257 balanced armature, supporting the articulation of voices and instruments. Compared with the P40’s dedicated dynamic midrange driver, the P50 assigns this region to balanced armatures as part of its vocal-focused design.

P50: Dual micro planar tweeters and an open-back housing

Two second-generation micro planar drivers reproduce the P50’s upper range. Their symmetrical magnetic structure is designed to lower distortion and extend treble response, supporting fine detail and the texture of cymbals.

The drivers sit inside a CNC-machined open-back metal cavity. EPZ designed the acoustic structure to support a more open sense of space and spatial cues, including the placement of instruments in music and sounds in games.

P50: Modular connections and included accessories

The P50 includes a 3.94ft (1.2m) 6N OCC silver-plated single-crystal copper cable with detachable 0.78mm two-pin connectors. Interchangeable 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced plugs allow it to connect to either output type on compatible sources.

Specified frequency response is 20Hz–20kHz, with an impedance of 20Ω and sensitivity of 106dB (±3dB). The package includes a carrying case, small, medium, and large eartips, both modular plugs, and a microfiber cloth.
