The AUDALYTIC AH90 is a desktop network streamer, DAC, and headphone amplifier that combines high-resolution streaming, digital conversion, and headphone playback in a single compact component. Built around AKM's AK4499EX DAC and AK4191 modulator architecture, the AH90 separates digital processing from analog conversion while integrating FPGA-based signal management, XMOS XU316 USB processing, and support for Roon Bridge, UPnP, HQPlayer NAA, AirPlay, Spotify, and Tidal. With balanced and single-ended headphone outputs alongside RCA and XLR line outputs, it is designed to serve as both a personal listening hub and the centerpiece of a compact two-channel system.

Separate digital and analog conversion architecture

At the core of the AH90 is AKM's AK4499EX DAC paired with the AK4191 modulator. This architecture separates digital processing functions from analog conversion, reducing interaction between the two stages before the signal reaches the output section. AUDALytic further supports this design with independent power supply and grounding arrangements for each channel, providing a cleaner electrical environment for the DAC circuitry.

The digital section is managed by an FPGA responsible for signal routing, clock management, PLL control, DoP decoding, and silent switching between PCM and DSD formats. By handling these functions before conversion, the FPGA helps maintain stable signal flow and timing while accommodating a wide range of digital source formats.

Streaming and high-resolution playback support

The AH90 includes built-in network streaming functionality through Roon Bridge, UPnP, and HQPlayer NAA. It also supports AirPlay, Spotify, and Tidal, allowing the unit to access both local libraries and streaming services without requiring a separate network transport.

For direct computer playback, the XMOS XU316 USB platform supports PCM up to 768kHz, DSD512, and MQA 8X decoding. This broad format compatibility allows the AH90 to accommodate modern high-resolution music libraries, HQPlayer workflows, and streaming services that offer advanced encoding formats.

Headphone amplification and output flexibility

The integrated headphone amplifier provides both 4.4mm balanced and 6.35mm single-ended outputs. Balanced output delivers up to 1000mW into both 32Ω and 64Ω loads, while the single-ended output provides up to 500mW into 32Ω. Two selectable gain levels allow the amplifier stage to be matched to a range of headphone sensitivities and power requirements.

Independent switching for headphone and line-out operation makes it possible to move between personal listening and external amplification without changing cabling. RCA and balanced XLR outputs allow the AH90 to function as a source component for powered speakers, integrated amplifiers, or dedicated headphone amplifiers.

Connectivity, clocking, and desktop integration

The rear panel includes USB-C, LAN, optical, and dual coaxial digital inputs alongside RCA and XLR analog outputs. This range of connections allows the AH90 to accommodate computers, network libraries, CD transports, streamers, and external amplification systems within a single desktop or media-room installation.

A low-noise integrated power supply supports the internal circuitry, while an external 12–15V DC input provides an alternative power option. The AH90 also incorporates a CK01 clock module with femtosecond jitter clocking to support precise timing throughout the digital signal path. An OLED display with adjustable brightness and screen saver functionality provides status information, and an included remote offers convenient day-to-day control.
