NEW: AURIBUS ACOUSTICS LAGUNA PRECISION CLOSED-BACK HEADPHONES

new ULM-35 driver with a dual-port closed enclosure

The Auribus Acoustics Laguna Precision is a lightweight closed-back dynamic headphone developed for home listening, travel, studio work, gaming, and content creation. It uses a newly developed 35 mm ULM-35 cellulose-cone driver inside the AURI-400 Controlled Response enclosure, with a dual S-shape reflex port system extending low-frequency response to 10 Hz. A 36Ω impedance, 110 dB/V efficiency, and 12.7 oz (360 g) weight allow the Laguna Precision to operate across portable and desktop sources while providing the acoustic isolation of a passive closed-back design.

Closed-back acoustic architecture

The Laguna Precision uses a fully closed ear-cup structure to reduce the amount of external sound reaching the listener and limit acoustic interaction with the surrounding environment. Unlike headphones that depend on active noise cancellation, its isolation is produced by the physical enclosure and the seal around the ear, making the design suitable for commuting, shared rooms, recording environments, and other situations where sound leakage or outside noise needs to be reduced.

The outer enclosure is CNC machined from solid aircraft aluminum and anodized for durability. Aluminum provides a rigid structural boundary for the acoustic system, while nylon, aluminum, and PETG components are used elsewhere in the assembly to keep overall weight down. The resulting enclosure remains relatively slim for a closed-back design and contributes to the headphone's 360 g weight without cable.

ULM-35 cellulose dynamic driver

At the center of the Laguna Precision is Auribus Acoustics' newly developed ULM-35, a 1.38 in (35 mm) dynamic driver using a low-mass cellulose cone and compliant surround. The moving assembly is designed to combine controlled diaphragm movement with low mechanical mass, supporting extended low-frequency output while keeping distortion under control across the driver's operating range.

The ULM-35 has a nominal impedance of 36Ω and an efficiency of 110 dB/V. Those electrical characteristics allow it to reach useful output levels from a broad range of headphone amplifiers, including portable players and interfaces as well as mixing consoles and home audio systems, without requiring a specialized high-power amplifier.

Dual S-shape reflex bass system

A dual S-shape reflex port architecture works with the AURI-400 Controlled Response enclosure to extend the Laguna Precision's specified frequency response to 10 Hz–20 kHz. The ports form part of the enclosure's low-frequency tuning, using the interaction between the driver, enclosed air volume, and port geometry to reinforce bass extension rather than relying on the driver diaphragm alone.

The system is designed around deep, tactile low-frequency reproduction while maintaining controlled operation through the rest of the audible range. Integrating the ports into the closed enclosure also allows Auribus to retain passive acoustic isolation while extending bass response below the frequencies commonly associated with the audible fundamentals of music.

Angled driver positioning

The ULM-35 driver is positioned toward the front of each ear cup and angled toward the ear rather than firing directly from the center of the enclosure. This geometry directs more of the acoustic output across the outer ear before it reaches the ear canal, using the listener's pinna as part of the acoustic path.

Auribus designed this arrangement to produce a more spacious presentation within the constraints of a sealed headphone while preserving the isolation and low-frequency behavior of the closed-back architecture. The positioning is achieved mechanically rather than through digital spatial processing.

Headband and ear-pad construction

The Laguna Precision weighs 12.7 oz (360 g) without its cable. A spring-steel Pro headband provides the primary structure, while a textured TPU comfort strap distributes contact pressure across the top of the head. The combination is intended to support longer listening and working sessions without adding unnecessary mass to the assembly.

Memory-foam ear pads wrapped in sheepskin form the seal around the ear, which is important both for comfort and for maintaining the acoustic loading of the closed enclosure. Vegan velour pads are also available upon request.

Developed from the Sierra C.R. Closed Concept

The Laguna Precision was designed and engineered by Auribus Acoustics in California and develops ideas first explored in the Sierra C.R. Closed Concept project that began in 2023. Rather than carrying over the earlier platform unchanged, Auribus developed a new driver, enclosure, and exterior architecture with greater emphasis on portability and acoustic isolation.

The resulting headphone also establishes a new design direction for future Auribus models, combining machined aluminum construction with the company's controlled-response enclosure work and a driver platform developed specifically for this closed-back application.
