ES Lab EHT-LPS linear power supply for the EHT-7 energizer

The ES Lab EHT-LPS is a dedicated linear power supply for the EHT-7 electrostatic headphone energizer. It combines an R-core power transformer with dual LT3045 voltage regulators, Nichicon Fine Gold and Elna Silmic II filtering capacitors, and dedicated EMI filtering to provide a regulated 15V DC output with up to 1A of current. The supply is designed specifically around the EHT-7's power requirements, providing an alternative to a conventional switching power supply for EHT-7 systems.

Dedicated power for the EHT-7

The EHT-LPS provides 15V DC at up to 1A through a two-pin GX-16 connector, with pin 1 assigned to positive and pin 2 to ground. This fixed output configuration is designed specifically for the EHT-7 rather than as a general-purpose adjustable power supply.

AC input is available in 110V or 220V versions, with total power consumption specified at 15W. Matching the supply directly to the energizer establishes a defined voltage, current capacity, and connector pinout throughout the power path.

R-core transformer and linear regulation

An audio-grade R-core transformer forms the input stage of the EHT-LPS. Unlike a high-frequency switching supply, the linear architecture avoids high-frequency switching as part of its voltage-conversion process, reducing a potential source of switching noise before power reaches the EHT-7.

Two LT3045 regulators handle voltage regulation after the transformer and filtering stages. The LT3045 is a low-noise linear regulator, and the dual-regulator implementation is used here to maintain a stable 15V DC output while limiting regulator-generated noise and ripple as the energizer draws power.

Capacitor and EMI filtering

The filtering stage uses Nichicon Fine Gold and Elna Silmic II capacitors selected for the power-supply circuit. These components smooth the rectified supply before regulation, helping reduce residual ripple presented to the downstream regulator stages.

Dedicated EMI filtering provides an additional layer of interference suppression in the power path. Combined with the linear transformer and LT3045 regulation stages, the filtering network is intended to reduce high-frequency electrical noise reaching the connected EHT-7.

CNC-machined aluminium chassis

The power circuitry is housed in a CNC-machined aluminium enclosure. The front panel carries a power-status indicator, while the rear panel contains the AC input, power switch, and two-pin GX-16 DC output connector.

The EHT-LPS is rated for 15W power consumption and carries a one-year warranty. Its electrical interface is fixed at 15V DC with a maximum output current of 1A, using pin 1 for positive and pin 2 for ground.
