New from SMSL: D200 DAC & Preamp

SMSL rounds out the 200 product line

The all-new SMSL D200 ($319) is a desktop DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and preamp designed to balance audiophile-grade performance with everyday usability. At its core is the ROHM BD34352EKV DAC chip, backed by SMSL’s CK-03 clock circuit for reduced jitter and a fully-balanced preamp stage that keeps distortion down to just 0.00019%. Add Bluetooth playback with lyrics display, MQA/MQA-CD decoding, and an ultra-clear laminated glass screen, and you’ve got a low-cost hub that fits easily into a modern system.

With its release, the D200 rounds out SMSL’s 200-line of gear, joining the PA200 Gallium Nitride Power Amplifier and the PL200 MQA-CD Transport. Together, the three units form a stack: the PL200 reads CDs, the D200 decodes, and the PA200 drives, each one designed to work in sync with the others.

ROHM DAC and balanced preamp

The BD34352EKV is known for high linearity and natural tone. SMSL supports it with dual NJU72315 chips in a balanced configuration, keeping SINAD (signal-to-noise and distortion ratio) up to 115.9dB and signal purity intact.

Clocking done right

Timing errors, known as jitter, can blur detail and reduce clarity. The D200’s CK-03 clock circuit addresses this directly. For users who demand absolute precision, the D200 accepts an external 10MHz or atomic clock, locking the system to a reference-grade timing source.

Bluetooth without shortcuts

Wireless playback runs through Qualcomm’s newest Bluetooth chip with LDAC and aptX HD support: two codecs designed for high-resolution transmission. Pair your device, hit play, and the D200 can display track info and even lyrics on its front screen. Control playback with the included remote for quick access.

A screen that lasts

At the front is a 1.9-inch tempered glass panel, fully laminated for better visibility and durability. Compared to standard displays, this one resists wear and delivers clear information at a glance.

Connectivity made simple

USB, coaxial, and optical inputs handle PCM (pulse-code modulation) up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD (Direct Stream Digital) up to DSD512. RCA and XLR outputs give you flexibility, with output levels of 2.5Vrms and 5Vrms. That makes the D200 just as comfortable feeding a pair of powered monitors as it is sitting between a transport and an amp.

Built to sync with the PA200 and PL200

The D200 integrates seamlessly with SMSL’s PA200 power amplifier and PL200 CD transport. In this setup, the PL200 reads discs, the D200 decodes, and the PA200 powers speakers, all locked together with an external clock for consistent timing.

Flexible sound controls

Inside the menu you’ll find selectable PCM and DSD filters, sound color modes, and output modes that let you run it as a fixed DAC or a variable preamp. Adjustments are handled by the front knob or the remote. Your choice.
