Moondrop introduces MM3A active speakers with Bluetooth 6.0 and LDAC

The Moondrop MM3A is a compact two-way active speaker system designed for desktop listening, music production, and everyday multimedia use. Each speaker combines a 0.65-inch silk-dome tweeter with a 3-inch aluminum concave-cone woofer and dual horizontally opposed passive radiators. A four-channel digital amplifier delivers 66W of total rated power, while a fully digital crossover and adjustable parametric EQ provide control over frequency response. With five input options, Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC, and support for audio up to 96kHz, the MM3A accommodates a range of desktop audio sources and listening requirements.

Compact two-way design with passive bass radiators

The MM3A uses a 0.65-inch silk-dome tweeter for high-frequency reproduction and a 3-inch aluminum concave-cone woofer for midrange and bass. Each enclosure also houses two horizontally opposed 3-inch passive radiators, bringing the complete stereo system to eight drivers — four active and four passive. The passive radiators respond to internal air-pressure changes generated by the woofer, reinforcing low-frequency output without requiring a conventional bass-reflex port.

Moondrop specifies a frequency response of 60Hz–20kHz, with bass extension reaching 55Hz at -3dB and 50Hz at -6dB. The opposing radiator arrangement allows the system to extend its low-frequency response within an enclosure measuring approximately 107 × 161 × 178.5mm. A 10-degree tilted front baffle angles the drivers upward, accommodating the lower placement typical of desktop speakers.

Aluminum woofer construction and controlled diaphragm movement

The 3-inch mid-bass driver uses a one-piece aluminum concave cone with a hidden inverted-R surround. Its motor assembly incorporates dual N52 neodymium magnets within a U-yoke structure, while an NBR rubber surround and DuPont CONEX spider provide mechanical support and help maintain controlled voice-coil movement.

Four-channel amplification with 66W of total power

The MM3A integrates a four-channel digital amplifier with 66W of rated total system power. Each channel is specified to deliver a maximum undistorted output of 33W at total harmonic distortion (THD) of 1% or less. The four-channel architecture provides separate amplification paths for the active drivers, allowing the digital crossover to manage their respective frequency ranges before amplification.

The system has a specified A-weighted signal-to-noise ratio of at least 85dB, while the AUX input sensitivity is rated at 300mV ±20mV. These specifications describe the amplifier's noise performance and the analog input level required for its intended operating range. A universal 100–240V AC input accommodates different regional power supplies.

Digital crossover and adaptive signal processing

The MM3A uses a fully digital DSP electronic crossover with a fourth-order filter design. The crossover divides the incoming audio signal into frequency bands appropriate for the tweeter and woofer, allowing each driver to operate within its assigned range. Fourth-order filtering provides a relatively steep transition between frequency bands, helping manage the overlap between the drivers.

Adaptive upsampling and digital filtering are incorporated into the signal-processing architecture. A dynamic enhancement algorithm also adjusts woofer behavior at lower listening levels, providing level-dependent processing for the system's low-frequency output.

Adjustable parametric EQ and online tuning profiles

USB and Bluetooth modes support Moondrop's second-generation online interactive DSP system. The parametric equalizer (PEQ) allows users to adjust filter type, center frequency, gain, and Q value, which determines the bandwidth of an adjustment. These controls make it possible to apply targeted changes to specific frequency regions rather than relying exclusively on preset equalization curves.

The interface displays the original frequency response as a reference during adjustment. Users can also upload and download approved tuning profiles through the associated tuning community, allowing EQ configurations to be shared and applied across compatible systems.

Five input modes for wired and wireless sources

The MM3A provides five connection options: Bluetooth, USB, 3.5mm AUX, optical, and coaxial. USB accommodates compatible digital audio sources, while optical and coaxial inputs provide additional digital connections for equipment such as desktop audio interfaces, televisions, and other compatible playback devices. The 3.5mm AUX input allows connection to sources with an analog audio output.

Digital audio support extends to sampling rates of up to 96kHz. A rear-mounted volume control provides independent speaker-level adjustment in USB-C, Bluetooth, and AUX modes, and Bluetooth pairing can be initiated directly from the rear control panel.

Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC support

Bluetooth 6.0 provides wireless connectivity for compatible computers, smartphones, and other source devices. The MM3A supports LDAC, a Bluetooth audio codec designed to transmit audio at higher data rates than conventional SBC transmission when supported by the source device and wireless conditions.

AAC is also available as an alternative codec. The available codec depends on source compatibility and connection conditions, allowing the MM3A to accommodate different wireless playback devices.

Desktop positioning and vibration isolation

The MM3A includes sponge damping pads that can be placed beneath the speakers to reduce mechanical vibration transfer to the supporting desk. The pads also provide a small amount of elevation or tilt, allowing users to adjust speaker positioning relative to their listening height.

The enclosure's 10-degree tilted front baffle further accommodates desktop placement by directing the drivers upward. A dedicated metal lifting bracket is available separately for users who require additional elevation or positioning flexibility. Each speaker measures approximately 107 × 161 × 178.5mm, with a specified net weight of approximately 1,999g for the product.
