NEW: MOONDROP STARFIELD III IEMS
DUAL DYNAMIC DRIVER IEMS
The Moondrop Starfield III is a dual dynamic driver IEM that pairs a 10mm wood-dome bass driver with a 7.8mm diamond-like carbon (DLC) treble driver. Its two-way crossover combines acoustic filtering with electronic circuitry to coordinate the two drivers. An included cable with interchangeable 3.5mm, 4.4mm balanced, and USB-C plugs supports conventional headphone outputs, balanced sources, and direct digital playback—with 32-band parametric EQ available through the USB-C module.
Two drivers with dedicated roles
Moondrop’s D.W.T. architecture divides frequency reproduction between two dynamic drivers. The 10mm bass driver uses an ultra-thin wood-dome composite diaphragm, combining rigidity with internal damping to control resonance. Its inner-and-outer equal-volume dual-magnet circuit is designed to improve efficiency and maintain stable operation during larger diaphragm movements.
The 7.8mm treble driver uses a DLC dome composite diaphragm with a flexible suspension. The rigid dome helps control diaphragm breakup, while the suspension allows smooth movement. Together, these elements support high-frequency extension and reduced distortion through the driver’s operating range.
Acoustic filtering and electronic crossover control
Coordinating two drivers requires control over both their frequency output and their acoustic paths. Starfield III combines electronic crossover circuitry with precision acoustic tubes manufactured using high-resolution DLP 3D printing in collaboration with HeyGears. These internal structures manage airflow and acoustic filtering, helping control the transition between drivers and maintain consistent phase behavior.
Moondrop developed the tuning through finite element analysis, acoustic measurements, and repeated listening evaluations. The specified frequency response is 12Hz–44kHz, with total harmonic distortion of 0.2% or less at 1kHz and 94dB.
Three connections on one cable
The included cable uses a locking interchangeable plug system. A 3.5mm single-ended plug connects to conventional headphone outputs, while a 4.4mm balanced plug supports compatible DACs, amplifiers, and portable players. The USB-C plug includes a built-in sound card rated for 60mW output power, providing direct digital playback from compatible USB-C devices.
High-purity single-crystal copper conductors sit beneath a nylon-braided exterior. At the earphones, detachable 0.78mm 2-pin connectors with a shallow-groove socket design allow cable replacement and compatibility with a wide range of aftermarket cables and accessories.
32-band parametric EQ through USB-C
The USB-C sound card supports Moondrop’s second-generation online interactive DSP platform. Through the Moondrop app or web interface, listeners can adjust 32 bands of parametric EQ, including frequency, gain, filter type, and Q—the parameter that controls the width of an adjustment around its selected frequency.
A visual frequency response display provides a reference for targeted changes, and an auto-fitting function assists with tuning. These controls let listeners tailor the response through the USB-C connection while retaining the cable’s analog connection options.
Shared tuning profiles and personal sound preferences
The DSP platform supports community-created tuning profiles that can be downloaded and applied to the USB-C sound card. Listeners can also submit their own configurations for sharing, subject to approval.
Moondrop’s Sound Target ID feature stores a personal sound preference profile that can be refined through the DSP interface. That profile can be retained when updating or replacing compatible Moondrop earphones.
Resin housings with iridescent faceplates
The Starfield III uses contoured medical-grade resin housings developed through repeated fit refinements for extended listening. The faceplates shift between starry blue and violet-purple with changes in lighting and viewing angle. Gold-printed celestial patterns finish the surface, while an anodized aluminum alloy base plate provides a protective edge around each faceplate.
