New: SMSL PL100 Pro CD Player
SMSL PL100PRO CD player
The SMSL PL100PRO is a compact, all-in-one CD player that combines a slot-loading CD transport with dual Cirrus Logic CS43131 DAC chips, balanced and unbalanced analog outputs, digital bit-stream outputs, and front-panel headphone amplification. Measured performance is solid and predictable (THD+N at 0.001% and SNR at 110dB )and the unit can function as a source, a DAC, or a basic preamp for powered speakers.
A modern CD player
The PL100PRO treats the CD as a current playback format rather than a legacy one. The transport supports standard audio CDs as well as CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 CDs with up to 200 tracks per disc. That makes it practical for long playlists or background listening without disc changes. Playback information is shown on a small color display, keeping track position and status visible without excess ornamentation.
Dual CS43131 DAC architecture
Digital-to-analog conversion is handled by two Cirrus Logic CS43131 DAC chips. These chips are widely used in compact audio designs because of their low noise floor and efficient integration. In practice, the low noise floor means quieter passages remain clean, with less background hiss masking fine detail.
Balanced and unbalanced analog outputs
On the rear panel, the PL100PRO provides both XLR balanced outputs and RCA outputs. The balanced outputs deliver 4Vrms, while RCA outputs provide 2Vrms. Balanced connections are useful when running longer cables to powered speakers or studio monitors, where common-mode noise rejection helps keep interference out of the signal.
Because output volume is adjustable, the PL100PRO can act as a basic preamp. This allows direct connection to active speakers without an additional control unit, which simplifies smaller systems and desktop installations.
Headphone amplification with common connectors
For headphone listeners, the front panel includes a 3.5mm single-ended output and a 4.4mm balanced output. Power scales sensibly with impedance—showing higher output into lower-impedance headphones and tapering as impedance rises. Balanced output reaches up to 200mW at 32 ohms, while single-ended output is rated at 58mW at the same load.
Digital outputs for external DACs
In addition to its internal DAC, the PL100PRO includes optical and coaxial digital outputs. These outputs pass the CD’s digital signal directly to an external DAC without additional conversion. This is useful for users who already have a preferred DAC or who plan to upgrade later without replacing the disc transport.
Compact size and USB-C power
Physically, the PL100PRO measures 6.30 by 6.30 inches with a height of 1.75 inches (160 × 160 × 44.5mm). That footprint allows it to fit on bookshelves, desks, or alongside small integrated amplifiers. The chassis supports horizontal or vertical placement, which can help when shelf space is limited.
Power is supplied via USB-C at 5V/2A. This avoids a proprietary power supply and allows use with standard adapters or even power banks when needed. Standby consumption remains below 0.1W, keeping idle draw minimal.
Remote control and day-to-day use
A full-function remote is included for playback control, volume adjustment, and disc operation. This is particularly useful when the player is placed out of arm’s reach or integrated into a living-room system. The controls are conventional and predictable (play, pause, track navigation, open/close) without layered menus or software dependencies.
