NEW: TOPPING MINI 500 DESKTOP CLASS D POWER AMPLIFIER
Compact Speaker Power in Stereo or Mono
The TOPPING Mini 500 is a fully-balanced Class D desktop power amplifier with stereo and mono operating modes. Its native bridge-tied load architecture delivers 220W per channel into 4Ω in stereo at THD+N below 1%, while mono operation provides up to 450W into 2Ω at the same distortion threshold. Balanced and single-ended inputs, selectable volume control, and a 12V trigger accommodate desktop speaker systems and systems with an upstream preamplifier.
Stereo and mono power ratings
In stereo mode, the Mini 500 delivers 220W per channel into 4Ω or 120W per channel into 8Ω at THD+N below 1%. At the higher THD+N threshold of 10%, those ratings increase to 250W and 150W per channel, respectively. These measurement conditions distinguish the amplifier’s output at different distortion limits.
A rear-panel selector switches the amplifier to mono operation for a single speaker or passive subwoofer. Mono mode supports loads down to 2Ω, delivering 450W at THD+N below 1% or 500W below 10%. Two Mini 500 amplifiers can also serve as a dual-mono system, with one amplifier assigned to each speaker.
A fully-balanced signal path
The Mini 500 maintains a differential signal from input to output to reduce common-mode noise and external interference. Differential circuitry handles the signal as the difference between two complementary paths, helping reject interference shared by both. Through its balanced input, the amplifier achieves a signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range of 126dB, with channel crosstalk measured at -111dB.
In stereo mode through the balanced input, THD+N measures 0.0004% at 5W into 8Ω using an A-weighted 1kHz test. Stereo frequency response extends from 20Hz to 40kHz within ±1.0dB. These figures describe performance under their stated test conditions, separate from the amplifier’s maximum-power ratings.
Volume control at the amplifier or source
VOL mode places listening-level adjustment at the front-panel analog potentiometer. BYPASS mode removes that control from the signal path and operates at fixed maximum volume, allowing a preamplifier or volume-controlled DAC to set the listening level. Lower the upstream device’s volume before switching modes to avoid a sudden increase in output.
Balanced and single-ended connections
A pair of balanced XLR/6.35mm TRS combo inputs and a pair of single-ended RCA inputs accept signals from DACs, CD players, and preamplifiers. Front-panel input selection switches between the balanced and single-ended connections. Rear-panel speaker terminals accept banana plugs.
The 12V trigger input synchronizes power with a compatible upstream component. Selecting TRIG on the front panel enables automatic power control from a connected DAC or preamplifier, while ON and OFF provide manual operation.
Compact aluminum construction
The aluminum alloy chassis measures 7.48 inches wide by 6.46 inches deep by 1.73 inches high (19 × 16.4 × 4.4cm) and weighs approximately 2.40 pounds (1,090g). Heatsinks on the rear panel and bottom plate dissipate heat during sustained output.
