NEW: XDUOO CDM-10 PORTABLE TUBE CD PLAYER

Switchable Tube or Solid State Output CD Player

The xDuoo CDM-10 is a portable CD player that combines a dedicated disc transport, dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs, and dual Raytheon JAN6418 vacuum tubes in a single battery-powered unit. Designed to bridge physical media and modern digital playback, the CDM-10 functions both as a standalone CD player and as a USB DAC supporting PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz, DSD256, and MQA decoding. A switchable tube and transistor output stage allows listeners to choose between two distinct analog signal paths, while a fully balanced headphone amplifier provides up to 1087mW of output power for a wide range of headphones.

Dual DAC architecture with switchable analog stages

At the core of the CDM-10 are two Cirrus Logic CS43198 DACs operating in parallel alongside a fully-balanced four-channel analog stage. This dual-DAC implementation improves channel separation while maintaining low noise and distortion throughout the signal path. Through its USB input, the player supports PCM up to 32-bit/384kHz, DSD256, and MQA playback, allowing it to serve as both a CD transport and a high-resolution digital source.

The CDM-10 incorporates two separate analog output circuits that can be switched instantly using its built-in tone control system. Transistor mode prioritizes linearity, detail retrieval, and precise imaging, while tube mode routes audio through a pair of Raytheon JAN6418 vacuum tubes. These low-voltage subminiature tubes introduce the harmonic characteristics associated with traditional tube circuits while remaining practical for portable operation.

Portable vacuum tube implementation

The dual JAN6418 vacuum tubes are supported by an optimized low-power circuit designed specifically for mobile use. Unlike conventional tube designs that require large power supplies and high operating voltages, the JAN6418 can operate efficiently within a portable platform while preserving the tonal characteristics that make tube amplification appealing to many listeners.

xDuoo also employs a shock-resistant tube mounting and circuit design intended to reduce microphonic effects. Mechanical vibration can cause unwanted noise in tube circuits, particularly in portable devices. By minimizing these effects, the CDM-10 maintains stable tube operation during everyday use.

Custom CD transport and vibration control

A dedicated optical reading mechanism works alongside a custom servo control system to maintain accurate disc tracking and rotation speed. Rapid error correction and stable transport operation help improve compatibility across a wide range of discs while preserving data integrity during playback.

The transport system incorporates both electronic cache memory and a physical damping structure to reduce the impact of vibration. Cache buffering helps maintain continuous playback when external movement occurs, while physical isolation minimizes mechanical disturbances that can affect disc reading performance and contribute to timing inconsistencies.

Upsampling and digital playback flexibility

The CDM-10 includes selectable 2x and 4x digital upsampling modes. By increasing the sampling rate before digital-to-analog conversion, these modes reduce the workload placed on the DAC's reconstruction filters and provide an alternative approach to signal processing for users who prefer different playback characteristics.

When connected to a computer, tablet, or smartphone, the CDM-10 functions as a USB DAC with support for PCM from 16-bit/44.1kHz through 32-bit/384kHz, DSD256, and MQA 8x decoding. This allows a single device to handle both physical media and modern digital music libraries.

Balanced amplification and extensive connectivity

A self-developed current expansion circuit works alongside the fully balanced headphone amplifier to provide substantial output capability. The balanced output delivers up to 1087mW into 32 ohms, while the single-ended output provides up to 632mW into the same load. Measured performance includes a balanced signal-to-noise ratio of 119dB (A-weighted), balanced THD+N of 0.0013%, and frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz within ±0.5dB.

Connectivity includes 3.5mm, 6.35mm, and 4.4mm balanced headphone outputs, along with RCA line output, optical output, and coaxial output. These options allow the CDM-10 to operate as a portable player, desktop headphone source, CD transport, or digital source within larger audio systems.

Portable power and aluminum construction

A built-in 6000mAh battery provides approximately 7 hours of CD playback or up to 12 hours when used as a USB DAC. For desktop use, the player also supports external 12V DC power input, allowing continuous operation without relying on battery power. Charging is handled through USB-C, with fast charging completed in approximately 3 hours.

The chassis is constructed from aluminum alloy, which provides structural rigidity while helping reduce susceptibility to electromagnetic interference. A transparent viewing window highlights the internal tube implementation while maintaining the CDM-10's compact dimensions of 7.2 × 6.3 × 1.5 inches and weight of 1.9 pounds.
