Compact Ortholinear Kit with Dedicated Number Row

The Preonic Rev 4 is the newest evolution of Jack Humbert's iconic ortholinear keyboard design. Taking the original Planck concept and giving it a bit more breathing room, the Preonic adds a dedicated number row while preserving the compact, grid-based layout that made the original a favorite. The kit combines a CNC-machined case with a ground-up PCB redesign featuring per-key RGB lighting, integrated underglow, expanded encoder support, an RP2040 microcontroller, and full QMK compatibility. 

Ortholinear design

Unlike traditional keyboards, the Preonic aligns keys in a uniform grid that most find easier to navigate once they've adjusted to the layout. The compact design keeps frequently used keys closer to your fingers, reducing hand movement and making layers and shortcuts more accessible. 

Integrated RGB lighting

The Rev 4 features both full per-key RGB backlighting and integrated underglow. Smaller, more efficient LEDs provide vibrant illumination while reducing power consumption, making it easier to dial in anything from subtle accent lighting to a full-spectrum RGB desk disco.

Expanded encoder support

Rotary encoders have become a favorite tool for custom keyboards, and the Rev 4 embraces them in a big way. The PCB supports up to ten encoder positions and offers improved support for double-detent encoders, opening up countless possibilities for volume controls, media functions, scrolling, layer switching, and custom macros.

RP2040 controller

An RP2040 microcontroller powers the Rev 4 platform, providing a modern foundation for customization and firmware development. Additional SWD breakout pads are included for advanced development and debugging workflows.
