A utilitarian icon, now in DSS

The DSS Dolch set is a nod to the rugged, portable terminals made by Dolch Computer Systems in the 1980s and ’90s. These machines were built for fieldwork, diagnostics, and network engineering long before laptops became standard issue. Their no-nonsense aesthetic has become a staple of the mechanical keyboard world, and now this classic colorway returns on the newly re-commissioned DSS tooling.

Down to brass tacks

With its muted light gray alphas, dark gray modifiers, and signature red accents, the DSS Dolch carries forward the same iconic colorway that made the original set a favorite. 

A classic sculpted design returns

DSS is the first custom keycap set produced on the recently re-commissioned DSS tooling. Originally developed in the early 1980s, DSS was designed to offer a sculpted alternative to the popular DSA profile. It combines DSA's textured spherical touch surface with a medium-height sculpted shape that sits lower than SA. The profile features smooth sides similar to DSA, creating a distinctive look and feel that bridges vintage and modern keyboard design.

A rare piece of keyboard history

The DSS family had a relatively short commercial lifespan before being overtaken by the DCS family, which gained wider popularity thanks to its cylindrical touch surface. As a result, vintage keyboards equipped with DSS keycaps are exceptionally uncommon today and highly sought after by collectors. This release brings a rare profile back into production using restored original tooling.

true to the original: Doubleshot ABS

DSS Dolch is molded from doubleshot ABS plastic, with legends formed as part of the keycap itself rather than printed on the surface. The result is a durable legend that will not fade or wear away with use. Future DSS production will be limited to ABS material, preserving the character and manufacturing methods that defined the original profile family.
