LADDER Chopin II Desktop R2R Pre-amplifier
Balanced line-stage preamplifier
The Ladder Chopin II is a fully-balanced, fully discrete Class-A line-stage preamplifier with precise analog volume control and low-noise power delivery. It combines XLR and RCA connectivity, a microprocessor-controlled 60-step relay attenuator, precision-matched components, a 65W toroidal transformer, and remote operation in an aluminum-alloy chassis.
Fully-balanced Class-A architecture
The Chopin II uses a fully-balanced differential amplification circuit with discrete field-effect transistors for output amplification. The signal path is designed for strong noise rejection and consistent channel balance, with a specified signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB and stereo crosstalk of -110 dB.
60-step relay volume control
A microprocessor-controlled, relay-based 60-step attenuator handles volume adjustment. Precision-matched resistors and components support accurate level changes and channel tracking, while the front-panel display provides a clear indication of the selected input and volume setting.
Low-noise linear power supply
A 65W pure-copper toroidal transformer supplies the preamplifier, supported by a bank of ERSE capacitors. Eight independently regulated power supplies distribute power throughout the circuitry to help maintain stable operating conditions and limit electrical noise.
Balanced and single-ended connectivity
The rear panel provides two balanced XLR input pairs and one RCA input pair for source components. Outputs are available through both balanced XLR and single-ended RCA connections, making the Chopin II suitable for integration with a range of power amplifiers and active audio systems.
Gold-plated RCA terminals
Gold-plated single-crystal copper RCA terminals provide the single-ended analog connections. The connector design complements the preamplifier’s emphasis on precision components throughout the analog signal path.
Front-panel controls and display
The left control provides power, source selection, standby, and mute functions, while the right control adjusts volume. A central display shows operating information at a glance. Remote control is also supported for convenient adjustment from the listening position.
Compact aluminum-alloy chassis
The aluminum-alloy enclosure keeps the component relatively compact while accommodating the discrete audio circuitry and substantial linear power supply. The product imagery specifies chassis dimensions of 12.6 x 13.0 x 2.4 in (320 x 330 x 60 mm).
