100mm planar magnetic headphones

The Moondrop Skyland is an open-back, full-size planar magnetic headphone built around a large 100mm driver and a full-surface drive system. It's designed for a neutral, controlled presentation with low distortion, strong detail retrieval, and long-session comfort. 

Full drive planar magnetic diaphragm

Skyland uses a 100mm planar magnetic diaphragm driven across nearly its entire surface. Traditional planar designs energize only part of the diaphragm, which can lead to uneven motion and treble smearing. Full Drive Technology extends the active circuit over most of the vibrating area, applying more uniform force and reducing split vibration. The result is cleaner transients and better control at higher volumes.

Ultra-thin 500nm diaphragm

The diaphragm itself is extremely thin—about 500 nanometers. Lower mass allows the diaphragm to start and stop more quickly, which improves microdetail and timing. This helps preserve texture in strings, cymbals, and vocals while maintaining a balanced frequency response across the audible range.

N55 magnet array optimized by FEA

An array of 36 N55 neodymium strip magnets generates a consistent planar magnetic field across the diaphragm. Finite element analysis was used to refine magnet spacing and strength, improving field uniformity and efficiency. This supports stable diaphragm motion and contributes to Skyland’s low nonlinear distortion.

Secondary diaphragm stress balancing

A multi-layer pure silver etched circuit works with tension-balancing technology to distribute mechanical stress more evenly across the diaphragm. By reducing localized strain, the driver maintains lower distortion under dynamic swings and preserves tonal consistency at higher playback levels.

Open-back low-diffraction grille

The open-back structure uses a woven metal grille with rounded wire geometry and a smooth, low-diffraction surface near the diaphragm. This reduces high-frequency reflections and minimizes acoustic interference, helping maintain clarity through the upper mids and treble without artificially boosting energy.

CNC aluminum driver cavity

The driver and magnetic system are housed in a CNC-machined aluminum alloy structure. This integrated cavity supports the large diaphragm and magnet array while maintaining rigidity and long-term reliability. The open internal layout allows the magnetic field and airflow to remain consistent across the driver surface.

Carbon fiber suspension strap

A dry-process carbon fiber suspension strap provides strength, elasticity, and vibration damping. The material distributes weight evenly across the head, reducing pressure points during extended listening sessions. Subtle flexibility helps the headphone settle naturally without constant adjustment.

3D printed adjustable headband

The headband uses a flexible hollow 3D-printed structure instead of traditional leather or fabric. Increased surface area improves airflow and elastic support. Multi-segment adjustment at both ends allows the fit to adapt to different head sizes while maintaining consistent clamping force.

Hand-stitched lambskin earpads

The earpads are made from lambskin leather and stitched by hand. Pad geometry and internal volume were tested repeatedly to meet acoustic requirements while remaining comfortable. The material combination balances durability, seal consistency, and long-term wear comfort.

Interchangeable balanced cable system

The Skyland uses dual 3.5mm earcup connectors with a detachable cable design. The included cable terminates in a 4.4mm balanced plug, supporting balanced amplification. Additional adapters allow compatibility with a wide range of headphone amplifiers without modifying the headphones themselves.
