Moondrop Starfield III In-Ear Monitor (IEM)

Sale price$149.99 USD

Dual dynamic driver IEMs

The Moondrop Starfield III brings a new dual dynamic driver architecture to the Starfield series, pairing a 7.8mm diamond-like carbon (DLC) treble driver with a 10mm wood-dome bass driver. Its two-way acoustic crossover is designed for controlled bass, natural midrange timbre, and detailed treble extension. A detachable cable with interchangeable 3.5mm, 4.4mm balanced, and USB-C plugs provides flexible connectivity, while the USB-C sound card adds customizable DSP tuning through Moondrop's 32-band parametric equalizer.

Dual dynamic drivers with a dedicated two-way crossover

The Starfield III uses Moondrop's D.W.T. dual dynamic driver architecture to divide frequency reproduction between two specialized drivers. The 10mm driver handles bass reproduction, while the smaller 7.8mm driver focuses on treble detail and extension. A combination of acoustic filtering and electronic crossover circuitry manages the transition between drivers, helping maintain coherent imaging and a consistent tonal balance across the frequency range.

Diamond-like carbon diaphragm for detailed treble

The 7.8mm treble driver features a DLC dome composite diaphragm with a flexible suspension. The rigid dome helps control diaphragm breakup, while the suspension supports smooth movement and reduced distortion. This construction is designed to improve high-frequency detail retrieval and treble extension while maintaining a natural transition into the midrange.

Wood-dome bass driver with dual-magnet architecture

A dedicated 10mm dynamic driver uses an ultra-thin wood-dome composite diaphragm for low-frequency reproduction. The material combines rigidity with internal damping to support controlled resonance and natural mid-bass timbre. An inner-and-outer equal-volume dual-magnet circuit improves driver efficiency and stability during large diaphragm movements, supporting deeper sub-bass extension and responsive bass dynamics.

Precision 3D-printed acoustic structure

The Starfield III incorporates precision 3D-printed acoustic tubes developed to manage airflow and frequency crossover behavior within the earphone. Manufactured using high-precision DLP 3D printing technology in collaboration with HeyGears, the internal structures provide carefully controlled acoustic filtering. Combined with the crossover circuitry, they help maintain consistent frequency response and phase alignment between the two drivers.

Interchangeable 3.5mm, 4.4mm, and USB-C connections

The included cable features a locking interchangeable plug system with three connection options. Use the 3.5mm single-ended plug with conventional headphone outputs, the 4.4mm balanced plug with compatible audio equipment, or the USB-C plug for digital audio playback and DSP customization. The USB-C module includes a built-in sound card rated for 60mW output power, allowing Starfield III to connect directly to compatible USB-C devices.

32-band parametric EQ and interactive DSP tuning

The USB-C sound card supports Moondrop's second-generation online interactive DSP platform, giving listeners detailed control over the Starfield III's frequency response. Its 32-band parametric equalizer allows adjustments to frequency points, gain, filter types, and Q values through the Moondrop app or web interface. A visual frequency response display provides a reference for making targeted changes, with an auto-fitting function to assist in tuning.

Community tuning profiles and Sound Target ID

Moondrop's interactive DSP platform supports community-created tuning profiles that can be downloaded and applied to the USB-C sound card. Users can also submit their own configurations for sharing, subject to approval. The Sound Target ID (STI) feature creates a personal sound preference profile that can be refined through the DSP interface and retained for use when updating or replacing compatible Moondrop earphones.

Detachable high-purity copper cable

The included cable uses high-purity single-crystal copper conductors with a nylon-braided exterior. Its universal 0.78mm 2-pin connectors feature a shallow-groove socket design compatible with a wide range of aftermarket earphone cables and accessories. The detachable construction makes cable replacement straightforward and provides additional flexibility for different audio sources.

Ergonomic resin shells with iridescent faceplates

The Starfield III uses ergonomically contoured, medical-grade resin housings developed through repeated fit refinements for comfortable extended listening. The faceplates feature an iridescent finish that shifts between starry blue and violet-purple depending on the viewing angle and lighting. Gold-printed celestial patterns add detail, while an anodized aluminum alloy base plate provides a protective edge around each faceplate.

Measurement-guided acoustic tuning

Moondrop developed the Starfield III using finite element analysis, acoustic measurement equipment, and repeated listening evaluations. The dual dynamic driver system is engineered for consistent phase behavior and low distortion, with a specified total harmonic distortion of 0.2% or less at 1kHz and 94dB. With a rated frequency response of 12Hz–44kHz, Starfield III is designed to reproduce an extended frequency range with controlled transitions between its dedicated bass and treble drivers.
