xDuoo TA-10R Tube DAC/Amp
IMPORTANT NOTES
Due to the unfortunate fire at the AKM manufacturing facility in Japan, we have a very limited supply of this item. We urge anyone interested in this item to buy it while supplies last. Despite our very best efforts to get these products to customers as soon as possible, the impact of the fire on AKM’s operations may cause shipping delays. The AKM supply volatility will not improve until the end of April 2021.
The little powerhouse gets an upgraded chipset and a bright red makeover
xDuoo released the TA-10 (this model’s predecessor) in 2019 to good reviews. Most reviewers praised its high power output, compact build, XLR out, and low distortion. The DAC chip, however, was a bit outdated, causing some reviewers to dismiss the TA-10 as having already been superseded by other DAC/Amps before it even hit shelves.
Taking this feedback to heart, xDuoo has released the upgraded TA-10R with a totally upgraded chipset, optical and coaxial inputs, DOP64 support, plus a striking red exterior. As a DAC/amp, this unit can both decode digital files and amplify them for headphones, making it a great purchase for anyone looking for an all-in-one desktop solution.
Warm tube sound
Most modern solid state amps reduce distortion beyond the threshold of human hearing, offering a pure signal that allows listeners to hear the unadulterated source. Tube amps, on the other hand, add distortion. So why would anyone want one?
Many people love the quality of the distortion that tube amps add. They can pare back some of the shrillness and extension of the upper-end, and boost the mids and bass for an altogether warmer, slightly muzzier sound.
Swap tubes for different sound signatures
One of the joys of tube amp ownership is that the tubes can be swapped out for other tubes. Each tube has a different sound signature, adding or subtracting qualities like warmth, detail, and soundstage. It’s a fun way to play with the sound signature of a single amp, often for less than $30 a pop. Just be sure to find a reputable dealer of tubes before buying.
Updated Chipset
The TA-10R features a totally updated chipset. The AK4493EQ DAC chip and XMOS XU208 USB chip are capable of decoding 24-bit PCM up to 384kHz, DSD256, and 32-bit DXD up to 384kHz. These file formats are of much higher quality than MP3, providing detail and fidelity that are closer to the quality of master tapes.
Eight inputs and outputs
The xDuoo TA-10R features four inputs (optical, coaxial, RCA, and USB) and four outputs (SPDIF, RCA, balanced XLR, and 3.5mm SE). This combination allows you to connect a variety of sources, headphones, and speakers. You can connect laptops, tablets, phones, and desktops through the USB port, CD and DVD players through the optical, turntables through the RCA, and more. You can connect a pair of speakers to the RCA output port (just be sure that the TA-10R can power them), balanced headphones to the XLR output, or single-ended headphones to the 3.5mm jack.
