NEW FROM HIFIMAN: HE1000 WIFI PLANAR MAGNETIC HEADPHONES

THE HE1000 GOES WIRELESS

The HIFIMAN HE1000 WiFi is a planar magnetic headphone that combines the company’s established HE1000 driver platform with integrated wireless streaming hardware, onboard digital-to-analog conversion, and built-in amplification. Rather than relying on an external DAC, amplifier, or source device, the headphone can connect directly to a wireless network and stream music from services including Roon, Qobuz, Spotify, TIDAL, and Apple Music. Inside the earcups, HIFIMAN’s HYMALAYA Mini DAC and dedicated Class-A amplifier handle signal conversion and amplification, creating a self-contained playback system built around nanometer-thickness planar magnetic drivers and Stealth Magnet technology.

Wi-Fi streaming built into the headphone

The defining feature of the HE1000 WiFi is its integrated streaming platform. Once connected to a wireless network, the headphone can receive audio directly from supported streaming services without requiring a separate streamer, DAC, or headphone amplifier in the signal chain.

Wi-Fi provides substantially greater bandwidth than Bluetooth, allowing support for lossless and high-resolution audio transmission with fewer compression constraints. By integrating the streaming hardware directly into the headphone enclosure, HIFIMAN moves the entire playback chain closer to the drivers, reducing dependence on external components while maintaining access to modern network-based music libraries.

Integrated HYMALAYA Mini DAC and Class-A amplification

The HE1000 WiFi incorporates HIFIMAN’s self-developed HYMALAYA Mini DAC alongside a dedicated Class-A headphone amplifier. Digital conversion and amplification take place within the headphone itself, eliminating the need for an external DAC/amp when using wireless streaming functions.

The DAC supports PCM audio up to 768kHz and native DSD512 playback. The analog amplification stage delivers THD+N as low as 0.0055% at 1kHz, keeping distortion levels low throughout the conversion and amplification process. Locating the DAC and amplifier inside the earcups shortens the signal path between processing stages and the planar magnetic drivers, allowing the headphone to operate as a complete playback device.

Nanometer-thickness planar magnetic driver design

At the core of the HE1000 WiFi is HIFIMAN’s planar magnetic driver featuring a diaphragm measured in nanometers—less than one millionth of a meter thick. The extremely low diaphragm mass allows rapid acceleration and deceleration in response to incoming signals, which supports precise transient reproduction and detailed tracking of dynamic changes.

This low-mass driver structure helps maintain details during complex musical moments while reproducing subtle low-level information and harmonic detail. The planar magnetic architecture also distributes driving force evenly across the diaphragm surface, contributing to low distortion across the audible frequency range.

Stealth Magnet architecture

The driver assembly combines the planar diaphragm with HIFIMAN’s Stealth Magnet design and an enhanced magnet array. Traditional magnet structures can obstruct airflow and create acoustic turbulence as sound waves travel through the driver assembly. The Stealth Magnet approach reduces these airflow disruptions by presenting a less obstructive path for sound propagation.

Reducing interference within the magnetic structure allows the diaphragm to operate with fewer acoustic disturbances as sound exits the driver. The result is a planar magnetic system designed to preserve clarity and openness while maintaining the benefits of a high-efficiency magnetic circuit.

Flexible playback modes

The HE1000 WiFi supports three distinct operating modes. Wi-Fi mode enables direct network streaming from supported services, while Bluetooth mode provides compatibility with smartphones, tablets, and portable devices through LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC, and SBC codecs.

USB audio mode allows the headphone to function as an external DAC and amplifier when connected to a computer through its USB-C port. This flexibility allows the headphone to move between network streaming, wireless mobile listening, and wired desktop playback without changing hardware platforms.

Lightweight composite headband and onboard controls

HIFIMAN pairs the integrated electronics with a second-generation composite headband that reduces weight by approximately 20–30 grams compared to previous designs. Rotating hinge joints allow the earcups to conform to different head shapes while distributing pressure across the headband structure. The design accommodates the large planar magnetic driver assembly while maintaining balanced weight distribution.

Physical controls located on the earcup provide direct access to power, playback, and volume functions. A USB-C connection supports both charging and wired audio operation, allowing the headphone to be used without relying on a companion application for core functions.
