SMSL RAW-MHA1 power amplifier

The SMSL RAW-MHA1 is a compact digital power amplifier built around a high-power Infineon amplifier chip, with selectable stereo and BTL bridged mono operation. It delivers up to 160W per channel into 4Ω in stereo mode or 345W into 8Ω from a single bridged channel, while balanced XLR and RCA inputs accommodate a range of line-level sources. A dedicated subwoofer output with low-pass filtering also allows the amplifier to serve as the center of a compact 2.1-channel system.

High-power Infineon amplification

The RAW-MHA1 uses a high-power Infineon amplifier chip with energy conversion efficiency rated above 90%. In stereo operation, output power reaches 160W per channel into 4Ω and 85W per channel into 8Ω, providing separate amplification for a conventional two-channel loudspeaker system.

BTL mode bridges the amplifier channels to increase the voltage available to a single loudspeaker. In this configuration, the RAW-MHA1 is rated at 345W into 8Ω or 200W into 4Ω, allowing a pair of amplifiers to be used as dedicated monoblocks or a single unit to drive an application requiring one higher-power channel.

Low-distortion measured performance

Measurements taken with an Audio Precision APx555B specify THD+N at 0.004%, with a signal-to-noise ratio of 104dB and dynamic range of up to 105dB. Channel separation is rated at 89dB. Together, these measurements describe the amplifier’s residual distortion, noise level, and isolation between stereo channels rather than relying on subjective characterization of its output.

Input sensitivity is specified at 700mV with a 22kΩ input impedance. The listed maximum RCA output voltage is 2.5Vrms, while the maximum XLR output voltage is 5.0Vrms.

Balanced XLR and RCA inputs

Selectable RCA and balanced XLR inputs allow the RAW-MHA1 to connect to DACs, preamplifiers, audio interfaces, and other line-level sources. The balanced connection provides common-mode noise rejection when used with compatible source equipment, which can help reduce externally induced interference over longer interconnect runs.

Gold-plated connection terminals are used across the amplifier’s connections to resist oxidation and maintain stable electrical contact over time.

Dedicated subwoofer output

A dedicated subwoofer line output incorporates low-pass filtering so low-frequency content can be routed directly to a powered subwoofer. This allows the RAW-MHA1 to support a 2.1-channel loudspeaker system without requiring a separate external low-pass crossover between the source and subwoofer.

Switching power supply and protection

The RAW-MHA1 uses an audio-focused switching power supply designed around fast voltage regulation and current delivery for changes in amplifier demand. Multi-stage filtering and shielding are used to control high-frequency switching noise before it can couple into the audio circuitry.

Protection circuitry monitors the amplifier for overheating, excessive current, and short-circuit conditions. These safeguards are designed to intervene when operating conditions move outside the amplifier’s intended range.

CNC-machined aluminum enclosure

The amplifier is housed in a CNC-machined aluminum-alloy chassis with an anodized surface treatment. Aluminum provides a thermally conductive structure for moving heat away from internal components while the metal enclosure also provides electromagnetic shielding around the amplifier and power-supply circuitry.

The RAW-MHA1 measures 7.17 inches wide, 1.81 inches high, and 7.36 inches deep, with a listed weight of 2.91 pounds. AC input supports 100–240V operation.
