Vacuum tubes were hand-made for decades, so the two triodes inside them were never perfectly identical. We match them today so you get predictable performance in audio circuits.

The Mullard ECC82, known in the U.S. as the 12AU7, is a classic British small-signal dual triode known for its smooth, composed sonic character and long-term reliability. Produced across Mullard’s UK and European factories, these tubes became a staple in hi-fi amplifiers, preamps, and studio equipment where stability and musical balance mattered more than sheer gain.
